Lectio Divina and the Teachings of Bruno Secondin

Italy

Lectio divina has its roots in the Scriptures. It was also long practiced in monasteries. Today it is also known as “reading by faith” where one makes a reflective pause and prayerful listening of a passage from the Bible, done either alone or in a group. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the experience of meditation and silence, contemplation and sharing, allow the Word to become a source of grace. Not only that, it becomes a prayerful dialogue, an appeal to conversion, a prophetic proposal, and a horizon of hope. It is not pure technical study, exegesis research, or biblical information. Rather, it is an obedient listening and passionate response. The experiences of Father Bruno Secondin, a Carmelite theologian who dedicated his entire life to Lectio divina, are promoted and collected on the website  www.lectiodivina.it. The website continually promotes this ancient way of welcoming the Word with new meetings, new speakers, and new biblical pages. Father Bruno, who died in June 2019, had preached the spiritual exercises for the Pope and the Curia in 2015. For three years, he has been an editor on the commentary on the Sunday Gospel for Vatican Radio.
