Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Biblical Federation at Mar del Plata: Day 1

The works of the Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Biblical Federation (FeBiC) in Mar del Plata, Argentina, opened on April 15 with a solemn Eucharistic celebration in the city’s Cathedral and followed by an immersion, in groups, into the local biblical ministry in its different dimensions: pastoral, spiritual, formative, catechetical, family, charismatic… The representatives of the individual areas of the world then took into account of the different opportunities and vital points in the service to the Word, a great resource and precious light in a world that bears various signs of fragility. While in Latin America there is a vitality rich in proposals, the risks of some apologetic and fundamentalist drifts should not be underestimated. In a Europe very attentive to the educational sphere, there is a need for a more articulated service capable of dialogue with culture and pastoral care. In the Asian world, on the other hand, the thrust of the Word travels boldly on social-media, with the risk, however, of a Word detached from real life and of a Jesus who, in the world of youth, risks being understood as the “Harry Potter” of believers. Opportunities and risks, challenges and limits that immediately question the more than 200 members present from all parts of the world. The Pauline Family is represented by six members: Fr. Giacomo, coordinator of the Centro Biblico San Paolo; Fr. Hernando, delegate of Argentina and delegate of the local Sobicain; Fr. Jose, regional of Venezuela and representative of the local Sobicain; Sr. Elisabeth, Brazilian Daughter of St. Paul who is very active in Angola; Fr. William, member of the Jesus Priest Institute; and Rebecca, cooperator and coordinator of the Caribbean area and teacher of the Sobicain in Caracas.
