Charles De Foucauld: Living Life for the Gospel of Christ

On October 28, 1886, Charles de Foucauld felt like Paul (Phil 3:12). He was captured by Jesus and understood that he could no longer do anything but live for God. From that moment his life became a continuous adoration of his Mystery. In love with God and, specifically, with Jesus, the God who became man, Charles spent long hours in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, read the Gospel, meditated on it, transcribed it and, above all, tried to live it. He desires to grow in the knowledge of Jesus in order to love him, to immerse himself in him, letting himself be met and touched by Jesus in the certainty of being able to see and touch in him the «Word of life» (1 Jn 1:1). Reading today his meditations on the Gospel, the fruit of his long hours of prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament in the silence of the hermitage, is a fascinating and engaging experience. They are simple but profound words that invite us to re-do a personal journey of approach of sacred Scripture to make the Word of God the nourishment of our spiritual life and the criterion for the choices of the life and mission of every disciple also and above all, today. How to live the days that accompany his canonization? Reading his meditations on the Gospel!
