Paolo Merlo, the author of The History of Israel and Judah in Antiquity, recently appeared at the Edizioni San Paolo. He is a professor of the Old Testament at the Pontifical Lateran University and invited professor at the Pontifical Biblical Institute. The volume deals scientifically with the history of Israel and Judah in ancient times, with the intention of providing university students with a valid tool for interpreting Biblical texts contextualized in the set of contemporary extra-Biblical sources. The text summarizes almost two thousand years of history using in synthetic ways the biblical sources, but always compared with the data of epigraphic, archaeological and literary sources discovered during the studies in the various fields related to the biblical pages. Prof. Merlo presents 21 boxes out of text in which he reports texts from extra-biblical sources to be taken into account in the scientific reconstruction of the history of Israel and Judah. The text is embellished, moreover, by five maps concerning the various biblical periods and 17 figures of sculptures, papyri and coins. Read the review published by Settimana News
