Rediscovering the Grace of Baptism on the Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

The Pastoral Community of Lainate-Pagliera-Barbaiana (MI) prepared for Easter, with an intense week of pilgrimage to the Holy Land to rediscover the grace of Baptism. The Fathers of the Church loved to say that the whole mystery of Christ is contained in three laps: that of Mary, that of the Jordan and that of the tomb. For this very reason, the journey revolved around these three wombs: in Nazareth, where the group of 53 pilgrims stayed for six nights; at the Jordan, rediscovered at its source and on its way in and out of Lake Tiberias; at the Holy Sepulcher, with the celebration at dawn in the Chapel of Calvary, contemplating the mystery of the open side, from which blood and water came out. There were also testimonies given by Fr. Francesco Voltaggio, the Neocatechumenal Way; Fr. John Mark, the Little Brothers of Charles de Foucauld; and Sr. Lauretana, the Soeurs de Nazareth; Fr. Mario, the pastor of the Parish of the Good Shepherd of Jericho and especially of Nader, our archaeological and historical guide. The pilgrimage, organized by Fr. Fulvio Rossi, in collaboration with Fr. Giacomo Perego, international coordinator of the San Paolo Biblical Centre, was also accompanied by the hymns of Saint Ephrem. In one of them, this Father of the Syriac Church, sings: “Jesus went down into the sea of the dead / diving into it like bathers; / thence he brought up the pearl / painted in his image. /He spent three days in the abyss /and there he found the image /which the serpent had stolen /and hidden in the bottom of the Sheol.”

In the eyes of God we are that pearl.
