Corrado Augias: The Author Who “Scars” the Face of Paul

The man who invented Christianity. Corrado Augias’ recent volume dedicated to the Apostle of the Gentiles bears this title, a title that the author believes is entirely deserved… except that he then makes Paul a man of adventurous conduct and political wiles who has only one, calculated, thoughtful and precise goal: to seize the figure of Jesus, “a prophet whose resurrection was rumored, in order to transform it into that of the founder of a new religion that he, by God’s own mandate, had been charged with bringing out of Israel to spread it throughout the world.” An old thesis, Augias’ (with which the Church fathers already struggled), which turns the apostle into a choleric man of great intelligence, concerned only with being first in his class. By contrast, Jesus is a poor prophet gone wrong, exalted only because of Paul’s megalomaniac design. For those who would like to explore the topic further, we suggest this video interview.
