Isaiah
Here is my servant
42
2 He does not shout or raise his voice
2 proclamations are not heard in the streets.
4 He will not waver or be broken
4 until he has established justice on earth;
4 the islands are waiting for his law.
8 I am Yahweh, that is my name,
8 I will not give my glory to another;
8 or my praise to graven images.
Song of victory
11 Let the wilderness and the cities
11 lift up their voice,
11 together with the villages of Kedar.
11 Let the inhabitants of Sela sing,
11 and shout from the top of the mountain.
12 Let them give glory to Yahweh
12 and praise him in the far islands.
14 For a long time I have been silent;
14 I have kept still and restrained myself,
14 I moaned like a woman in labor,
14 breathing and panting:
15 I will lay waste mountains and hills
15 and wither all their vegetation;
15 I will turn rivers into wasteland
15 and dry up the pools.
16 I will lead the blind by ways
16 which they do not know;
16 along unseen paths I will guide them.
16 I will turn darkness into light before them
16 and make the rough ground smooth.
16 These are the things that I will do,
16 and I will not forsake them.
17 But those who trust in graven images and say to idols, “You are our gods” will be turned back in shame.
18 Listen, O deaf, 18 look, O blind, that you may see!
19 Who is blind, but my servant,
19 or deaf as the messenger I send?
19 Who is blind but the one I am lifting up? Who is deaf but the servant of Yah weh?
22 But this is a people robbed and plundered,
22 all of them ensnared in pits or languishing in prison.
22 They have become a prey,
22 with no one to rescue them;
22 they have become a spoil,
22 with no one to order, “Send them back!”
23 Who among you will give ear to this?
23 Who will listen and hear for the time to come?
24 Who handed Jacob to the spoilers
24 and Israel to the plunderers?
24 Was it not Yahweh,
24 against whom we have sinned,
24 in whose ways they would not walk,
24 and whose law they would not obey?
25 Therefore he poured out on them
25 the fury of his anger –
25 the violence of war.
25 It blazed round about them,
25 and they failed to know what it meant;
25 it burned and consumed them,
25 and they remained in bewilderment.
